Samson Carter Pratt joined our family on Sunday May 10th, 2015. On Saturday evening I woke up around midnight with mild to uncomfortable cramps and couldn't really discern whether they were contractions or just braxton hicks. I was able to sleep them off and felt normal the next morning. We went to church just like any other Sunday. It was a beautiful Mother's Day. That morning Dylan wrote me the sweetest Mother's Day note and gave me a beautiful necklace and pair of earrings made by a woman in India. It was very sweet. Church was extra sweet as I was able to go leave primary for a while and go to Relief Society. I loved the talk given by our sweet RS president on Motherhood and felt very uplifted. The spirit was strong as I taught my little primary class as well. Clementine and I got a ride home from the Walton's after church and as we got home I was feeling rather nauseas and tired. Luckily, Dylan came home shortly after and was able to help out with Clementine. A few hours later I started having contractions that were pretty painful. I was in denial that there was a possibility of having a baby that day. I called both of my sisters and explained what was going on. My mom was due to come on Monday evening and I wanted her to be there with us so badly when I delivered this baby.  I thought for sure I would be able to keep him in for just 24 more hours if I just put myself on bed rest or something. There was no stopping these contractions and they just kept coming more regularly and forcefully. They were so painful. I was panicking and crying because this is not what I had planned on. I took a warm bath to calm down and hopefully ease the pain. Dylan made me a milkshake and waffle and I ate it in the bath. After I got out of the bath I called my mom in tears. She was very encouraging and helped me come to terms with the fact that there was no stopping these contractions and I started making preparations for going to the hospital. Dylan dropped Clementine off at Liz's house with everything she would need for the next 24 hours and I packed my bags. We got to the hospital around 6 pm. I was dealing with very strong contractions at this point. When we checked in I was wincing in pain and trying not to cry. I felt like all of the people in the waiting area were staring at me. After a wait of about 10 minutes they got me into a room and had me change. My nurses name was Michelle and she was very nice and experienced. The doctor came in and checked my cervix and I was dilated to a 4 and about 75% effaced. She was very confident that things would progress quickly and that I would have this baby today. I really wanted the baby to come on Mother's Day and I liked the birthday 05-10-15. I was anxious to get an epidural because my contractions were so painful. My platelet levels were low so they had to run some labs which took quite a bit of time. By the time I got the epidural I was pretty close to having the baby. At around 11pm I was starting to get anxious because I was thinking that maybe I wouldn't be able to have this baby today. The doctor came in and checked me at 11:50 and said it was time to push. I was really determined to get this baby out of me within the next ten minutes. I pushed as hard as I could and out he came in one push! The doctor had to tell me to stop pushing. They whisked him away and cleaned him up. He had the cutest cry. It is such a surreal feeling hearing your very own baby's cry for the first time. After he was cleaned up a bit, they brought him over to me and I started nursing him. I hope to never forget those first few moments with my little Samson. He started nursing like a pro and had his cute little eyes wide open. I excitedly called my mom and told her everything. I couldn't help but feel so happy and elated.
